Education Seminar
Bar Codes "101" & Radio Frequency ID
Designed
for everyone
ALL
seminars start at 8:00 a.m.
All sessions are geared toward the business user and progress from
beginner to the latest technological advances. While some technical
information is provided, this workshop is focused on improving your
business applications.
- Session
One: Standards, Data Structure and Data Quality
We will discuss the standards organizations that manage the data
structures used to globally and uniquely identifying items, assets
and locations. We will provide the latest standards updates and
resources so that you can monitor future changes that may impact
your business. We will explain Global Trade Item Numbers (GTIN)
and Serial Shipping Container Codes and their use in the Open Supply
Chain, particularly in the Advanced Ship Notice (ASN) as used by
the DoD, Retail and Grocery.
- Session
Two: Data Quality
Session Two will cover best business practices for insuring data
quality within your organization and synchronization between you
and your trading partners. The correct way to determine trade item
attributes such as package measurement rules, Global Trade Item
Number assignment and re-use and using the new Global Location Number
will be discussed. If you are planning a system upgrade or a change
to new applications for ERP, Transportation, Warehouse or a Product
Information Manager it is imperative that you start out with good,
clean, accurate data.
- Session
Three: Bar Code Basics, Verification and Trouble Shooting
Session Three includes an introduction to Automatic Identification
Data Capture (AIDC), including case studies, biometrics, basic bar
code terms and concepts. We will cover business applications for
various industries including industrial / commercial, health care,
retail and grocery using the latest symbologies including GS1 DataBar,
scheduled for use at Point of Sale in 2010 and Data Matrix. Bar
Code Verification which is very different than bar code scanning
insures quality bar code printing. Verification and scanning equipment
will be available for hands-on use. We will also cover reasons a
bar code may not read properly. If you have ever incurred inefficiencies
or charge backs due to bad bar code labels this session alone will
save your company money.
- Session
Four: Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
RF Identification will eventually be a business requirement for
trade with DoD, Best Buy, Target, Albertsons and Wal-Mart. Many
other industries, including automotive and aerospace are using RFID
to increase the accuracy and timeliness of supply chain information
and labor management. Tracking and Tracing capability is critical
to virtually every industry. Understand the Privacy Issues that
surround RFID. Electronic Product Codes (EPC) and the internet will
be used so that "things can talk to things". Even if you
don’t presently have a mandate for RFID, make sure your business
applications and wireless devices will transition to RFID, not conflict
with it.
