Education Seminar – E-Business and XML
(EXTENSIBLE
MARKUP LANGUAGE)
- Session
One: Overview of E-Business and XML
This session introduces the basic ideas and definitions of E-Business.
XML is also defined with the ways it is being used in a number of
business applications. Discussions will include information on the
history and basic structures of E-Business and XML, and future directions
for implementation.
- Session
Two: Understanding Interoperability
The core ability of XML to allow integration of business systems
lies in the way it can make those systems interoperable. Understanding
XML then means we must understand what interoperability is, and
how it can benefit the way we do business. Through a case study
example, this session highlights the reasons why systems are made
interoperable, and the methods used for allowing dissimilar databases
to share information.
- Session
Three: Structures of XML
Data elements in XML are delineated by discrete tags, but these
tags are not simply a random structure. There are files and structures
used to determine and indicate the way a given message is put together
and how various applications will handle it. Discussions include
explanations of the DTD (Document Type Definition), XML-schema,
the XSL (Style Sheet), and the other structures used in XML to define
messages. Four different hands-on exercises are used to illustrate
structures.
- Session
Four: Security Issues and E-Business
An important implementation concern in E-Business and AML-based
systems is security. This session highlights security concerns and
tools related to privacy and protection of systems and data. We
will discuss the types of security threats that exist in the current
environment, and methods for dealing with the issues.
- Session
Five: Challenges in the Use of XML
This session looks at the challenges and resources, including a
case study example showing benefits ahead for various types of potential
XML users. Topics include tools for XML and additional sources focusing
on how XML can be adapted for use in existing systems, and the design
of new systems using XML as a key component. The session will review
the key organizational and industry barriers to the use of XML,
and cover a discussion of the evolving development of XML around
the world.
