One: Introduction to Financial EC/EDI
The concepts and definitions used in financial EC & EDI are
reviewed, and distinguished from electronic funds transfer. Trends
in corporate use and benefits of financial EDI are a major focus
of this presentation.
- Session
Two: Implementing EC/EDI Payments
This session explains the various options for initiating and receiving
payments using Financial EDI including the use of the 820 with ACH-CTX,
EFT payments with other formats, and ways to involve banks and VANs
in the process. Corporate examples of successful EFT programs using
both a credit and debit approach will be analyzed.

Three: Understanding Financial Transaction Sets
This session will explain in detail the structure and usage of key
ANSI payment and payment-oriented transaction sets including the
820 for remittance/payment, the 835 healthcare payment, and bank
reporting transaction sets. A brief exercise in the form of a walk-through
of the 820 will be conducted at the end of the session.

Four: Evolution of Financial EC: Consumer Payments
Successful implementations using evolving internet-based technology
for consumer payments will be examined in detail from the standpoint
of understanding the design and applicability. This session explores
e-checks and web payment systems.

Five: Advanced Topics in Financial EC/EDI
This session will focus on the future of financial EDI and explore
such topics as payment fraud and security issues in the Finance
Function and emerging applications in healthcare, tax, and international
financial EDI.
